Edward Tulane Vocabulary


The Miraculous Journey of Edward Tulane Vocabulary

1. jaunty - lively or self-confident
2. specimen  - sample, example type
3. unsavory - disagreeable or distasteful
4. duration   - the length of time something continues
5. china - ceramic material, usually used to make plates
6. implications - suggestions
7. diligence – careful attention
8. grotesque  - ugly disgusting
9.   considered – thought about, pondered
10.  constellations- clusters or groups of stars that from figures, designs, pictures, or  patterns
11.  firmly-  in a strong or definite way; tightly
12.  muck- a slimy mixture of mud and molding plants
13.  torso - the human body excluding the head and limbs
14.  reflected - given back or shown an image of;  having thought seriously about
15.  courtesy- polite behavior
16.  condescending-  treating others like they are beneath you, “snooty”
17.  vigorously- Strongly, with energy
18.  derogatory- intentionally offensive, belittling,
19.  triumphantly- in a victorious/winning manner

20.   discerning - having or revealing keen insight and good judgment; being critical
21.   umbrage-  Offense; resentment:
22.  ennui - boredom
23.  excruciatingly- Intensely painful; agonizing.
24.  ferocity- the state of being fierce or ferocious.
